THE SITE WILL BE UPDATED EARLY 2010Welcome to the Henley & District Agricultural Association, a charity dedicated to promoting and improving agriculture, horticulture and the breeding and rearing of livestock. To enable us to achieve our objectives we organise various events throughout the year.
The 2009 Henley Show takes place on Saturday 12th September at Greenlands Farm, Hambleden RG9 3AS. The main attraction this year will be The Mega Minis Stunt Display Team who will entertain the crowd in the Main Ring during the afternoon. Other attractions include:
- Back by popular demand, Jan Prymaka and the JRCS Falconry Display Team. Jan and his skilled team of handlers will perform two displays during the day. They will also have a static display on site and are willing to answer any questions you might have about the wonderful birds they will have on display.
- Adams Axeman -a log axing team. They demonstrate the skills of the forester and lumberjack in a way that is both entertaining and educational.
- The “Food and Farming” Marquee - an educational interactive display and exhibition which aims to help children of all ages to learn more about how food is grown and produced and how it reaches the table. Come and try your hand at milking “Delilah” the wooden cow, and watch a cow being milked, learn about grains, and much much more…. There will be plenty to entertain and educate the whole family.
- The horse show takes place in four rings. Classes include the Henley Show Championship, Accumulator with Joker, Working Hunter and Mountain & Moorland and National Pony Society qualifiers and Side Saddle classes.
- For the first time this year Petwise Zoo are coming to the Show with their exotic creatures – snakes, tarantulas, porcupines to name but a few!
- The heavy horses will be competing in Ring 5. Classes included the turnout for a single horse and pair – trade or agricultural, young handlers long reining and harness .
- Cattle lines, pygmy goat classes, the very popular Poultry Tent and the Caged Bird Tent
- The Companion Dog Show will start at 12.45pm in the Village Green. There will be both pedigree and novelty classes.
- Game Course - a working dogs display.
- We expect the competition to be as fierce as ever in the Produce Tent. With over 80 classes there is something for everyone –vegetable classes will include the largest marrow and the longest runner bean, floral, art and crafts plus children’s classes .
- There will be an interesting and varied Craft Marquee.
- Visit the Food & Wine Tent and the Shopping Arcade.
- An interesting and varied Countryside Marquee
- Additionally there will be over 100 interesting and varied Trade Stands located around the Show ground.
Other events organised by the Association:
This year the Sheepdog Trials will be held at Greenlands Farm, Hambleden RG9 3AS on Sunday 19th July.
Entries continue to rise, 40 dogs and their handlers attended the 2008 trials. Attractions for 2009 include Heavy horse wagon rides, spinning and weaving display and trade stands. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The annual Ploughing Match with Country Fayre will take place on Sunday 4th October at Bishopsland, Dunsden, Reading RG4 9NR. With Classes for vintage, classic vintage tractors and track vehicles, as well as two ploughing classes for heavy horses – high cut and ordinary. There will also be ferret racing, a poultry auction, trailer rides, outside trade stands and craft stands in the marquee. Bar and refreshments available all day.
